Wat Phrathat
Doi Suthep, one of the famous landmarks of Chiang Mai city is located in the western of Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand after Bangkok. You can reach Chiang Mai around 8 hour’s journey from Bangkok by bus or about one hour by plane.
Doi Suthep Mountain is located at 15 km west of Chiang Mai. It is a mountain range that separates Thailand with Burma. Doi Suthep Mountain height is 1.676 meters above sea level. On the top of Doi Suthep, tourist will find Wat Phrathat temple,
Wat Phrathat temple was discovered by King Kuena (1355 – 1385) who was riding a white elephant. Because of fatigue, the elephant fell at the place where the main temple of Wat Phrathat stands now.
Arriving at the parking area, tourists still have to rise again as high as 100-200 meters to reach the Wat Phrathat temple. There are 306 steps on both sides (balustrade) ornate with holy dragon heads and bodies called Nakorn Ping. If lazy to climb to Doi Suthep, available escalators to take the tourists reach Doi Suthep. The cost of this facility with the entrance fee is about 30-50 Baht.

In Doi Suthep journey, tourists will find many monks who walk to the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep. From Doi Suthep, tourist can see a view of Chiang Mai city. In addition, tourists can enjoy a Lanna-style architecture, wall painting of Gautama Buddha’s journey, a number of temples which have their own names in this Phrathat Wat complex, the old giant bells and various trees that often found in northern Thailand.
