Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat (or Angkor Vat) is a temple in Cambodia which as one of the wonders of the world. This temple was built by King Suryavarman II in the mid-12th century.

Development of Angkor Wat temple construction took over 30 years. Angkor Wat temple is located in the plains of Angkor, which also filled with any beautiful temples, but Angkor Wat is the most famous temple.


King Suryavarman II built Angkor Wat based on Hindu belief, they believe the Meru Mountain as a center of the world and home of Gods. That’s why the Angkor Wat’s tower is a tallest tower and it is a main tower of Angkor Wat temple.

The Angkor Wat temple is surrounded by walls and the canal that represent the ocean and mountains surround the world.The main entrance to Angkor Wat flanked by the Barays. Baray is a water reservoir, an area of land where dikes have been raised to catch and hold water. The entrance to the temple of Angkor Wat through the gate, representing a rainbow bridge connecting between a human’s world with the gods world.

Since 13th century, Angkor has become a Buddhist temple.
